Does Nevada State Bank Use ChexSystems? Is it Good for Bad Credit?

Considering Nevada State Bank or already applying for its account? Find out whether Nevada State Bank uses ChexSystems and offers a second chance checking or savings account.

You walk into your local bank branch and sit down with your bank representative to talk about opening a checking account. Maybe you’ve been through some financial difficulties in the past, but you are ready to get back on track. But maybe not. You may think your financials are in good shape.

You wait with bated breath through the application process, only to let it out in a sigh of disappointment.

The banking representative turns to you and says, “I’m sorry, but we can’t open an account for you right now. You were rejected by ChexSystems.”

At that point, the banker probably explained ChexSystems to you in detail. If you haven't already, you can read our in-depth guide to ChexSystems and ChexSystems removal, and why it may be having a negative impact on your financial life.

Denials like these are surprisingly common. In fact, CNN has reported that approximately 15% of bank applicants are denied regular bank accounts.

Official Response (Email or Phone)

Thank you for your interest in opening a checking account with Nevada State Bank. Our Fresh Start account is a second-chance checking account for individuals whose accounts have been closed and charged-off by another financial institution due to excessive overdrafts. This is the only type of account that you can open if you have a record on ChexSystems.

Before opening the account:

You will be required to attend a checking account management seminar through Consumer Credit Counseling Services ($20 fee to be paid to CCCS).

You must provide written verification of payment in full to former bank.

If the account is in good standing after one year, your account type will be changed to any other account type Nevada State Bank has to offer. The minimum opening deposit amount is $25.00. There is a $5.00 monthly service charge. In the event you should have an item(s) presented against non-sufficient funds, there is a $30 charge per item paid or returned, plus a $5 charge each day the account is overdrawn. A warning letter will be sent after the first 3 NSF's stating the account will be closed on the 4th NSF. Accounts will be closed on the 4th NSF occurrence and will not be re-opened.
