You walk into your local bank branch and sit down with your bank representative to talk about opening a checking account. Maybe you’ve been through some financial difficulties in the past, but you are ready to get back on track. But maybe not. You may think your financials are in good shape.
You wait with bated breath through the application process, only to let it out in a sigh of disappointment.
The banking representative turns to you and says, “I’m sorry, but we can’t open an account for you right now. You were rejected by ChexSystems.”
At that point, the banker probably explained ChexSystems to you in detail. If you haven't already, you can read our in-depth guide to ChexSystems and ChexSystems removal, and why it may be having a negative impact on your financial life.

Official Response (Email or Phone) | Our requirements for opening a second chance checking account are as follows: You must live, work, worship, or go to school in Austin or one of its 5 surrounding counties. You must open a savings account with a $25.00 balance. The balance will need to be maintained, but you do get it back when the account is closed. We will need to see a Texas ID or state drivers license. Upon these actions being met a checking account can also be opened. We require an initial deposit of $25.00 into it, but it is alright if the balance is later taken down to zero. As long as these requirements are met then you are eligible to open an account with Austin Telco FCU. We do not use ChexSystems when opening an account to determine if the account can be opened, so it is alright if it does not report as "paid" or if it indicates fraud. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at (512) 302-5555 ext 7320. |
